West Life
A familiar blend of big ballads and mid-tempo tunes, balanced by the occasional up-tempo song, ‘Face To Face’ presents Westlife playing to their strengths – passionate vocals and memorable tunes. It’s a straightforward formula that’s been winning hearts and ears since the dawn of popular music, from the doo-wop days of the Platters, through the timeless harmonies of the Drifters and Coasters, to the slick modern sounds of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, Take That and Boyzone. But no one’s done it with so much success as Westlife – 34 million album sales are testament to that!
That freshness can be heard all over ‘Face To Face.’ The band have never sounded in better voice and they’ve rarely had a better choice of material on which to show it. “We know we have to raise the bar each time we make an album and be bigger and better,” acknowledges Shane, who recently became a father for the first time. After seven years together, their seventh album finds them at the top of their game, and it’s a big game they play in, with six multi-platinum albums in the UK alone. Add to that the Brit Awards, MTV Award, 12 UK number one’s; Westlife are amazingly one of the biggest brands on the planet.
And the secret behind their rejuvenated sound – not such a secret really – is that they’ve just recharged their batteries with the longest holiday of their career. “We had nearly four months off and it felt like three years,” laughs Nicky. “The break made us realize how much we wanted to start work again. At the end of it I couldn’t wait to get back into the studio.”
A new start and a new chapter… but the Westlife story is far from over.

The Marine meets the big screen
The Superstars also visited the Wounded Warrior Center, where wounded soldiers – most of whom fought in Iraq – are staying for rehabilitation. They toured a few rooms, the computer lab and the lounge. They met a few wounded Marines and stopped to take photographs in front of an Iwo Jima memorial on the wall. It was an emotional moment for both the soldiers and the WWE Superstars. “My day has been absolutely wonderful so far. We had a chance to meet some injured Marines. We had a chance to meet some Marines who have recently returned home,” Cena told WWE.com. “This is what an event should be like. It shouldn’t be the quote-unquote place to be. Now this is the place to be. It’s a pleasure to be spending the day with these men and women.” After touring the base and meeting soldiers, the WWE Superstars prepared for the big red carpet event that evening. Around 5 p.m., their limos started rolling up to the Camp Pendleton movie theater, where a giant, energized crowd more than 1,000 had gathered earlier that afternoon to watch the red carpet festivities, hosted by RAW’s Todd Grisham. “Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the world premiere of The Marine at Camp Pendleton!” Grisham said. “Are you ready for the WWE Superstars? Let’s get this party started guys – keep that energy up!” Ric Flair and Maria arrived first. While the beautiful Diva blew kisses to her adoring fans, The Nature Boy addressed the crowd. “Tonight, John Cena, the WWE Champion, has a great movie coming out called The Marine,” Flair said. “We’re thankful for all of you here. We’re honored. You guys are the greatest.” Carlito, Candice, Coach and Bonito arrived next, and one apple-carrying cool guy shared his thoughts with the crowd. “This place is definitely cool. The Marine is going to be cool. Carlito not being in The Marine – that’s not cool. Not even a cameo?! Come on!” he said. Camp Pendleton’s base commander, Col. Seaton, walked the red carpet, too, and received many cheers

WWE champ John Cena [u can see me]
Name: John Cena
Height: 6 foot 1
Weight: 240 pounds
From: West Newbury, Mass.
Signature Move: The FU; STFU
Career Highlights: WWE Champion; U.S. Champion
After applying to more than 60 colleges (and being accepted by 58), Cena attended Massachusetts’ Springfield College, where he excelled as a Division III All-American offensive lineman and team captain for the Pride. But as much as he fondly remembers his college football accomplishments, he’s equally as proud of earning his degree in Exercise Physiology, which he attributes to making him a smarter, more durable performer in the ring today.
Though a huge WWE fan since childhood, rooting for heroes like Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, and Shawn Michaels, Cena had honestly never even considered a career in sports-entertainment. Instead, he flew out to California in 2000, to pursue a profession in bodybuilding (a move he now admits to making simply because his father had told him he wouldn’t make it out there). But while working behind the counter of Gold’s Gym in Venice, a discussion with a wrestler-in-training encouraged Cena to enroll in classes at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He was instantly hooked, and became motivated to learn everything he could about his newfound craft. He obviously proved a quick study; within a year, World Wrestling Entertainment signed Cena to a developmental contract to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. By June 2002, he had joined the SmackDown roster, and less than a year later headlined the first of what has since become countless main-event matches.
That said, Cena has never forgotten his roots. In fact, remembering where he came from has helped him evolve into the man he is today: a well-versed hip-hop artist, a successful movie star, and a blue-collared Chain Gang Soldier who’s always ready to fight. In his jean shorts and Reebok Pumps, he leads his WWE fan-based army into battle with the mission statement he’s been down with since Day One: hustle, loyalty, and respect.
n you “street cred”--unless, of course, you’re John Cena.
